Most founders choose bathroom cleaning over prospecting.
The dreaded feelings they experience from rejection after rejection can leave them feeling down for days.
But in rare cases, like the harvest moon in the fall, the large, orange glow, low on the horizon, makes it feel like a once-in-a-lifetime sight when conditions are perfect.
I found proof that there are times when we can experience a “wow” moment and learn something new.
Yes, this is going to sound strange. I enjoy it when a prospect challenges me. It happened.
This week, I've been diving into cold outreach to connect with a few more 1:1 coaching clients via connection requests and cold InMails on LinkedIn. Trying to get too personal in messages still feels too fake to me, so most of my messages are boilerplate.

Simple prospecting message. Right!
See that accomplishment section with a few results my clients have experienced?
I didn't think much of it until I received this message.

My first thought was, "Oh crap, did I do something wrong, did I highlight something incorrectly, or am I guilty of unconscious biases?" Whatever it was, I was definitely curious to learn more about what someone saw that I had missed.
Her name is Erin Royal, and she's the owner of ORBIN Contracting in Denver, Colorado. (To be crystal clear, this is all about love, so zero hate towards Erin.)
So after checking my facts, I responded to Erin, and you can see our conversation below.

Now, look again at what she says, “What would you like to do that isn’t tied to your kids, husband, but deep down for yourself."
At this point, I'm thinking I don't care if I ever win her over as a client, because I should start paying her.
Over the past year, I've had hundreds of hours in prospecting and coaching meetings with owners, and I only press others on their goals and dreams if I sense hesitation.
My ability to hear, interact with, remember, and prioritize my clients' goals is extremely important to me and to Falcon's success.
But what happens when the supposed goal isn't THE goal my client is after?
Over the next few days, take a moment to reflect on your goals and aspirations. As Erin reminds us not to get lost in the process and forget our WHY.
If you need additional help, download the guide I made earlier this year to help with this very process. Step one of the Raptor Route is to figure out the owner’s purpose and discover where we are going. Click the link to download the Owner Purpose Discovery.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Stay awesome, stay confident, and keep soaring higher!
— Cheering you on, Nick
